Investigators in Ohio are currently looking into nursing home abuse caught on tape.
WKYC.com reports Esther Piskor's son has footage of his mother being
hit in the face, being
shoved into a wall and being violently
thrown into bed. As a result, two nurses' aides have been fired and a third suspended for five days. A fourth was placed on unpaid leave after background checks revealed a felony record for theft of food stamps.
The nursing home company, MetroHealth, is running an internal investigation of the matter and has hired an outside agency to review policies and procedures in an effort to prevent this type of elder abuse from happening again. County officials in Ohio commented for the first time about the abuse saying the facility has addressed the immediate situation and is taking steps to prevent this kind of
resident abuse in nursing homesfrom reoccurring.
Steve Piskor, the victim's son, will be speaking with the Ohio Attorney General's Office regarding the abuse his mother suffered and the video he has of the incidents. The footage was captured by a hidden camera installed in his mother's room. Esther is a patient at Prentiss Center for Skilled Nursing Care and suffers from Alzheimer's disease.
As a Florida nursing home abuse lawyer, I hear some of my clients express a belief that their loved ones have been physically abused. Unfortunately, we do not always have the proof needed to support such a claim. As this example demonstrates, the "Nanny Cam" can level the playing field and provide the proof.
